Do You Have an Editorial Calendar?

An editorial calendar is a fancy name for planning ahead of time what you’re going to write and when you’re going to publish it. It can save you time (and your business!) and give your readers a more valuable experience.

Save Time (and your business!)

If you have to think (for hours!) about what to say before you write every post or article, you’re going to waste a lot of time staring at a blank screen.

If you have to waste time staring at a blank screen, you’re going to avoid writing posts and articles.

If you avoid writing posts and articles, you won’t update your website regularly, and Google won’t like your site as much.

If Google doesn’t like your site, prospects won’t be able to find it. They’ll go to a competitor’s site.

If you don’t update your website regularly, readers will decide it isn’t worth their time to stop by your site, because “you never know whether that site will have anything new.”

If prospects can’t find your site and existing readers avoid it, (read the following phrase with the voice of doooom) your business could fail.

And all for want of an editorial calendar.

Added value for your readers

If, on the other hand, you do have an editorial calendar for your blog and newsletter, you’ll always know what you’re going to write about. (Well, except for the time you sit down to write the editorial calendar, but that’s only one time, really, because you have to start somewhere – don’t you? – so it doesn’t count.)

If you always know what you’re going to write about, you can write strategically.

If you write strategically, you can give your readers more thorough, well thought out, coherent information on topics they value.

If you always know what you’re going to write about, you can write and post regularly.

If you write and post high-value content regularly, Google will love your site.

If Google loves your site, prospects will be able to find it.

If you write and post high-value content regularly, readers will visit your site regularly.

Since you’re getting prospects and readers to visit your site, (as you read the following, you can almost hear the angelic choirs) your business will thrive!

And all because you took the time to develop an editorial calendar!

Tune in next week to find out how to create this miracle of planning for your business.
